Obituary of Thomas L. Heflybower
Thomas L. Heflybower, widower of “Chickie” Diemer Heflybower, passed away early Monday morning at his home on Grandview Avenue in Pottstown.
Tom was born at home in Linfield, PA to the late Edwin and Maybelle Heflybower. He graduated from Spring City High School, his sister receiving his diploma for him because he was in Belgium at the time having enlisted in the Merchant Marines. His ship brought home some of the first soldiers who were returning from WWII.
He worked as a mechanic at Sunny Slope Dairy until his early retirement due to a bought of encephalitis which left him legally blind. Despite his handicap, he spent many years digging for old bottles with his best friend Mac. He was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed listening to the ball games on his pocket radio that he carried with him everywhere.
He is survived by two daughters, Kym Heflybower, wife of Edwin Androwick of Douglassville, PA, Jacqui Bailey, wife of William Bailey Jr., Pottstown, PA, 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1great, great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, “Chickie”, His brothers, George and Eddie, his sister, Frances Jones, his son, Thomas S. Heflybower, granddaughter, Jane Christman and great great granddaughter, Mia Noel.
