Obituary of Harold Krauss Hoffman
Harold Krauss Hoffman, age 88, of Boyertown, PA, went home to Heaven on September 20, 2020. After bravely fighting many years of declining health issues, Harold passed peacefully at the Reading Hospital with his beloved family at his side. His faith in Jesus Christ was a vital part of his life.
Harold was born on October 4, 1931, in Niantic, PA. He was the second youngest of six children born to Sydney and Lottie (Krauss) Hoffman. As a young man, Harold learned the value of hard work on the family farm. Harold was a very compassionate person. His sister remembers how she would find him in the barn hugging the young calves. He attended the Douglass Township Consolidated School and growing up he worked at the Latshaw Poultry Farm.
Harold married the love of his life, Joyce (Gresh) Hoffman on September 28, 1956. They spent 62 wonderful years together living in the same home and had two daughters, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who he cherished deeply. Harold loved spending time with his grandchildren and could always be found running the grandchildren to school, activities, or taking them to McDonald’s for lunch.
Harold worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber until the late 1970’s at which time he went to work as a carpenter for his father-in-law, Harry Gresh. After Harry took ill and retired, Harold went to work at Boyertown Packaging until his retirement in 1995.
Harold enjoyed family trips to Fort Myers, FL, where his wife’s parents had a winter home. He loved fishing and spent much time at the local fishing piers. He also enjoyed hunting, having his large summer garden and going to auctions. He could always be found in his yard doing some type of project. He also enjoyed the many trips to visit his Michigan family.
He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather and Christ follower and was always willing to help anyone who was in need of help. His soft spoken, kind, generous and gentle spirit was a blessing to all those who knew and loved him. Harold and his family faithfully attended Colebrookdale Chapel for many years.
He is survived by daughters, Amber Strunk (Daniel), Claudine Smith (Randy); grandchildren, Daniel Strunk, Amanda Strunk, Heather McGrath (Arthur), Andrew Smith (Rachel), and Arden Smith (Kristi); and six great-grandchildren, Braelyn, Everly, Harlow, Huxton, Mason and Madison; and sister, Mary Heydt.
He was predeceased by sisters, Helen Bieber, Eva Meyers, and Ruth Allenbach; and brother, Paul Hoffman.
